Can somebody please explain “Techno Sound” to me? I am very open to various genres of music. I like Rock, Pop, Classical, Italian like Gianna Nanini’s “Bello e Impossibile”, Frech chanson, “des chant qui chantent” like almost anything from Piaf or Becaud, classic folk, even Thai Luck Thung or almost anything else you can think off. But I cannot understand Techno.
I can deal with the absence of lyrics. Some of my favourite pieces of music are purely orchestral; “Rhapsody in Blue”, for example. But if you then also forego melody, all you are left with is rhythm.
Now, Rhythm can be exiting or boring. For examples of exiting (Rock-)rhythms go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DBEs2c3gBI. By comparison the rhythm of Techno Sound is exceedingly boring. There is no rhythm to speak off at all. It is just a monotonous endless thumping sound comparable to a steam hammer at slow speed.
So, you have “Techno” which has no lyrics, no melody and no rhythm to speak off. All the components that make up the essence of music are missing. Why do some people even consider this “music”? To me it is just noise, as annoying as honking horns in rush hour traffic.
You cannot dance to Techno. You cannot sing along or just whistle a tune. Forget about swaying to the music. All you can do is bob you head along with the thump – thump – thump that the (very) loudspeakers emit, if you are sufficiently stoned. But that is about it. A Techno performance is therefore called “a Rave”, not “a party” or any other term that might imply human interaction. It is every raver for him- or herself.
To me that is just sad. Or maybe I am just too old.
